Anthropic to restore global access to most powerful AI models
Anthropic will soon restore global access to its advanced AI models Fable 5 and Mythos 5 after the US government lifted export restrictions.

Anthropic announced on Tuesday that it will soon restore global access to its most powerful artificial intelligence models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, after the US Department of Commerce lifted export controls. The company confirmed the decision in a post on X, stating that access would be restored starting tomorrow.
Earlier this month, on June 12, US authorities blocked access to these models on national security grounds after discovering vulnerabilities in safeguards designed to prevent misuse. Just four days ago, Anthropic had received authorization to allow a small group of American cybersecurity firms to access Mythos 5.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick wrote to Anthropic on June 26, acknowledging that the company had worked with the US government to address risks associated with the models. On Tuesday, Lutnick informed Anthropic that the Trump administration had withdrawn previous restrictions, satisfied that the company had taken steps in close coordination with the government to mitigate risks.
Rival AI lab OpenAI has also complied with Washington's requests, limiting the release of its powerful GPT-5.6 model to approved partners. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed on Friday that this process is not optimal.
White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles thanked tech companies on Tuesday for their cooperation on AI and cybersecurity, including advanced model access and guardrail testing. Earlier, CIA Director John Ratcliffe compared the capabilities of frontier AI models to digital nuclear weapons, defending the administration's stringent approach to controlling the release of powerful AI technology.
