Anthropic's Claude Can Now Build Editable Documents Directly in Chat

Anthropic has expanded its Claude AI assistant with a new capability called Claude Docs, allowing users to request documents be created directly within an ongoing chat. If a user asks Claude for something like a one-page summary of key information, the assistant generates the document and posts it right inside the conversation.

Newly created documents start out private, but users can choose to share them with colleagues for collaborative work. Documents can be edited within Claude itself, or exported and opened in Google Docs or Microsoft Word for further work.

Slides without a separate app

A similar capability now extends to presentations — users no longer need to switch to the separate Claude Design tool to build slides. Simply asking Claude in a chat to create a presentation causes the slides to appear directly in the conversation. These can also be edited on the spot or downloaded as a PowerPoint file or PDF.

Merging Cowork and Artifacts

Alongside these additions, Anthropic is merging its Cowork and Artifacts features into a single interface. Cowork is a mode within the Claude app that uses agentic AI to handle multi-step tasks, such as reading a user's work documents and then producing new documents, slides or spreadsheets. Artifacts, meanwhile, are pieces of saved content — documents, HTML pages, diagrams — kept in a sidebar for easy later access.

According to the company, users often struggled to know which tool to use for a given task, since work begun in one didn't carry over to the other. The new combined approach, described internally as "One Claude," makes all these previously separate capabilities available from any conversation while preserving existing context and connected tools.

The changes are rolling out over the coming weeks to Pro and Max subscribers across web, desktop and mobile, with Team and Free plan users set to receive them at a later date.
