Anthropic launches Claude Docs and Slides to rival Google Gemini

Anthropic has rolled out new Claude Docs and Slides tools for creating documents and presentations, while also merging regular chats and Cowork into a single unified Claude interface.

Anthropic has introduced two new tools for its Claude AI assistant platform — Docs and Slides — allowing users to create documents and presentations directly from chat conversations. The resulting files can be exported, edited, and shared with other users.

Alongside the new tools, Anthropic is simplifying how Claude works by merging standard chats with the Cowork feature into a single interface, described as "one Claude." This means all productivity tools, including Artifacts and Claude Design capabilities, will now be accessible from any conversation. According to Anthropic, Claude can now determine what a given task requires, so features previously split between Cowork and Design are now available in every chat, along with existing context, skills, and connectors.

Similar to Google Docs

Claude Docs and Slides are launching in beta alongside the existing Claude Design tool. As with Google Docs, newly created Claude documents start out private but can be shared with other users who can edit them simultaneously. Collaborators, including Claude itself, can leave comments resembling those found in Google Docs. Anything created with Design, Slides, or Docs is accessible via a single shareable link that also works on mobile devices.

Competing with Google

While Anthropic's models are generally considered more advanced than Google's, Google has held an advantage through tight integration with its productivity suite — this year it expanded Gemini's capabilities within Docs, Sheets, and Slides. The addition of Docs and Slides narrows the gap between the two platforms, giving users fewer reasons to leave Claude for other tools.

The "one Claude" update will first roll out to Pro and Max subscribers on web, desktop, and mobile over the coming weeks, with Team and Free users gaining access later. Anthropic says no action is needed to enable the update, and users can continue using Claude chat as before.
