Anthropic Introduces Claude Tag – An Always-On AI Teammate in Slack
Anthropic launches Claude Tag in research preview, an AI that lives in Slack, learns from channels, performs tasks, and proactively keeps teams updated with persistent context.

Anthropic has announced the research preview of Claude Tag, an “always-on Claude” that operates in Slack as an AI teammate. Users can tag @Claude to get insights in chats and assign tasks. The feature initially rolls out to Claude Enterprise and Claude Team customers.
Claude Tag builds on existing integrations—users could already DM @Claude or tag it in channels, and Claude Code in Slack routed coding tasks to full web sessions. However, the new tool adds persistent context and memory. “As Claude follows along with its channel, it learns ever more about the work,” Anthropic stated. If permitted, it can also gather facts from other channels across the organization.
Each Slack channel has a single Claude identity, visible to all members, so anyone can see what Claude has been working on and pick up the conversation where the last person left off. System administrators control which tools, information, and channels Claude can access, ensuring that a Claude set up for legal work cannot seed memories into the engineering channel.
When assigned a specific task, Claude Tag breaks it into stages and works through them using available tools, responding in a Slack thread. It also features an ambient mode that proactively jumps into chats to keep the team updated, flag items from across the organization, and follow up on forgotten threads or tasks. Anthropic says this makes it feel like “working with a real colleague—one that can produce work in public view, with far greater context and understanding than before.”
Context is increasingly critical for enterprise deployments, and Anthropic is not alone in focusing on it. Microsoft uses Graph, expressed through Copilot and Work IQ. Snowflake and Databricks position their platforms as back-end support containing tacit organizational knowledge that agents can tap. Glean is also building an intelligence layer that understands company context, sitting between the model and enterprise data.
