Anthropic signs $10 billion deal with AI cloud startup Volta
Anthropic, the company behind the Claude AI model, has reportedly signed a $10 billion six-year agreement with cloud startup Volta to expand its computing capacity.
Anthropic continues its aggressive push to expand its infrastructure, striking yet another major cloud computing deal. According to Bloomberg, the agreement with AI cloud startup Volta involves a six-year partnership under which Volta will provide compute capacity to the maker of Claude.
Deal details
Volta, founded earlier this year, will work with cryptocurrency mining company Bitdeer to develop a data center in Norway. The facility will deliver 133 megawatts of capacity and will be powered by Nvidia's state-of-the-art Vera Rubin systems. Volta is part of Nvidia's Cloud Partner program, a consortium of AI cloud providers using Nvidia GPUs in their data centers.
Strategic context
Anthropic has been aggressively securing compute deals in recent months as it competes with rivals. The company also recently announced agreements with SpaceX and Amazon. Volta had previously mentioned a partnership with an AI lab but had not named the specific client. Bloomberg cited anonymous sources familiar with the deal, while TechCrunch reached out to Anthropic for further comment.
