Ape to host major cycling competition with new gravel race

On Saturday, September 12, the towns of Ape in Latvia and Vastse-Roosa in Estonia will host the fifth stage of this year's Vivus.lv MTB Marathon season. The main event will be the traditional MTB100, held for the ninth time, a 100-kilometer challenge along the Latvian-Estonian border area, with the route crossing the border between the two countries multiple times. Over the years it has become one of the standout events of the marathon season.

A new gravel race

This year's program includes an addition — for the first time, a gravel cycling competition called "Gravel escAPE" will be held in Ape alongside the MTB marathon stage. Participants will be able to choose between a 111-kilometer or 66-kilometer distance along gravel roads in Latvia and Estonia, with routes completely different from the MTB courses. The gravel route will not be marked; riders will navigate using GPS or a GPX file while riding on public roads.

Distances for all ages

As part of the MTB marathon, participants can choose from several distances suited to different ages and fitness levels, including the MTB100 course, a half-marathon, a distance for teenagers, a recreational ride, a children's ride, and a balance-bike distance.

Activities after the finish

After the race, participants and their supporters can look forward to entertainment, masterclasses, photo opportunities and other activities. The evening will continue with an awards ceremony and a season-closing party featuring DJ Ufo. Registration for all distances is open at www.vivusmtb.lv under the "Registration" section.
