Apple Bans Home Service Ads in Upcoming Apple Maps Advertising
Apple has published advertising guidelines for its upcoming Apple Maps ads, prohibiting home service ads such as plumbing, electrical, and roofing. The ads are expected to launch in summer 2026 in the US and Canada.

Apple has revealed advertising rules for its Apple Maps app, signaling a different approach compared to competitors. The company announced plans to introduce ads to Maps in March 2026, with a targeted launch this summer in the US and Canada. The new guidelines include several prohibitions, most notably home service ads, which cover plumbing, electrical, locksmith, HVAC, pest control, roofing, and general contracting. Such ads are common on Google Maps, but Apple appears to be aiming for a distinct experience.
The guidelines also ban defamatory or profane content, ads promoting illegal or criminal conduct, deceptive, drug-related, or political ads. Additionally, ads for bail bonds and cryptocurrency ATMs are prohibited.
On its website, Apple describes Maps ads as a discovery tool, not just for navigation. The company emphasizes helping users find coffee shops, restaurants, stores, and landmarks, rather than pest control services. This could be a deliberate strategy to make ads feel less intrusive.
Advertising is a growing part of Apple's Services business, which includes subscriptions, in-app purchase commissions, and ad revenue. Besides Maps ads, Apple already offers advertising in Apple News and across multiple sections of the App Store. In 2022, the company significantly expanded App Store ads to include app pages and the Today tab.
For now, Apple seems to be taking a restrained approach with Maps ads, focusing on local businesses and points of interest.
