Apple has begun layoffs affecting staff on its Siri and Vision Pro teams, according to a Bloomberg report. In total, more than 200 jobs have been eliminated. Bloomberg says Apple is largely shutting down the team responsible for Vision Pro gaming and reducing the size of the group that produces immersive content for the headset.

In a statement to Bloomberg, Apple said the changes are meant to help evolve its business and deliver the best experiences for users, adding that new roles will also be created. The company has not yet responded to The Verge's request for comment.

Uncertain future for Vision Pro

The $3,499 Vision Pro launched in early 2024 as Apple's major bet on "spatial computing," but it has not become a mainstream hit. The device received an update with an M5 chip last year, and in May Bloomberg reported that Apple was developing a slimmer, lighter successor. However, weeks later it emerged that Apple had suspended its partnership with Samsung Display on a screen intended for a cheaper entry-level XR device.

Meanwhile, spurred by the success of Meta's smart glasses, Apple is reportedly preparing its own version. Bloomberg says Apple plans to unveil the glasses at WWDC in 2027 and release them by the end of that year.

Apple also finally introduced its revamped, AI-powered Siri at this year's WWDC, with a public beta expected to roll out later this year.
