Apple iOS 27 Beta Lets Users Make Liquid Glass Even More Transparent
Apple's iOS 27 public beta includes a new slider to adjust the transparency of the Liquid Glass effect. After a week of testing with maximum clarity, a reviewer found it added visual depth without compromising legibility.
Apple released the public beta of iOS 27 in mid-July, with the full version expected in September. The update introduces a slider under the Appearance tab that allows users to control the translucency of the Liquid Glass effect—making it either "more clear" or more opaque.
Liquid Glass debuted in 2025 and was initially controversial due to its impact on text legibility. In response, Apple rolled out updates that increased opacity. Now, with iOS 27, users can choose a more transparent look by dragging the slider to the left.
Reece Rogers, a journalist who tested the beta, set his iPhone to maximum clarity for a week. He described the effect as whimsical, noting how notifications warped app icons and created a sense of depth reminiscent of the iOS 7 parallax wallpaper. The menu bar and edge elements were most affected, but overall legibility was rarely impaired.
Rogers admitted that after a few days, the transparent look became normal, and he had to check his settings to confirm it was still enabled. While not as flashy as the Siri overhaul, the transparency toggle is a delightful addition, and Rogers chose to keep it active after the experiment ended.
