Apple releases security updates for three macOS versions

Apple has released new operating system updates for three of its macOS platforms. The latest versions are macOS Tahoe 26.6.1, macOS Sequoia 15.7.9, and macOS Sonoma 14.8.9. The update description simply states that it provides security updates for your Mac.

On its support pages, Apple specified that the changes address a vulnerability in Screen Sharing. The issue allows an attacker on the network to authenticate to Screen Sharing without valid credentials. This new version is designed to close that gap.

Notably, these updates did not go through the usual developer and public beta phases, suggesting the issue was critical enough for an expedited release. Mac users are advised to download the new OS promptly.

This comes after Apple's round of 26.6 updates at the end of July, which were thought to be the last before the next generation. The company, however, continues to surprise. Public betas for the highly anticipated iOS 27 and macOS 27 began in mid-July. Just two days ago, Apple also overhauled its bug bounty program in response to an overwhelming number of AI slop submissions.
