Apple's overhauled Health app appears early in iOS 27.2 developer beta

Apple is letting developers test a substantially redesigned version of its Health app through the iOS 27.2 developer beta, months before the wider public release originally planned for later in 2026. Its early appearance in a beta suggests the full rollout may not be far off.

Until now, the Health app has mainly served as a storage bin for data collected by the Apple Watch and other Bluetooth-connected fitness devices, without doing much with that information. The redesigned version marks the first real attempt to analyze and act on that data.

New sections

The beta introduces an Insights tab, giving users an overview of daily metrics and trends across categories such as sleep, fitness, and readiness — the last of which is exclusive to Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 owners.

A second new section, Longevity, brings together several entirely new features. It includes a Health Age score, which uses data gathered by the Apple Watch to estimate how a person's body is functioning relative to their actual age, along with movement assessments covering flexibility, strength, and balance. Apple says written and video commentary from health experts will also appear dynamically within the app, responding to a user's individual data.

Apple has indicated that further features are planned for future beta releases, including personalized summaries within the Insights tab, tailored recommendations, and the ability to order lab tests through Quest.

Competing with wearable rivals

Together, these additions push the Health app and Apple Watch into more direct competition with Oura, Whoop, and Google, all of which already use AI and proprietary software to turn similar raw data into distinctive scores, summaries, and recommendations.

Apple has not announced an official public release date for the redesigned Health app, saying only that it is expected "later this year."
