Apple One bundles: what the Family plan includes and which tier is best
Apple raised prices on several subscriptions this year, including its Apple One bundles. The Family plan costs $28 a month and can be shared with five other people.
Apple's Apple One subscription bundle has become more expensive this year, leaving users to weigh which of its three tiers is worth paying for. According to Engadget, the answer depends mostly on how many Apple services a person uses regularly.
Price changes this year
Apple Music rose by $1 a month for individual plans and by $3 for the Family plan. A few weeks later, monthly Apple TV subscriptions went from $13 to $15, while annual ones became $20 more expensive in total. Apple One was also affected: the Individual tier climbed from $20 to $22 a month.
The three Apple One tiers
Individual ($22 a month) includes Apple TV, Apple Music, Apple Arcade and 50GB of iCloud storage. Subscribing to these separately would cost about $13 more.
Family ($28 a month) offers a shared 200GB pool of iCloud storage, the Apple Music Family plan (which costs $20 on its own), plus Apple TV and Apple Arcade. It saves about $17 a month. The plan can be shared with five other people, which brings the cost to under $5 per person a month. Apple does not require members to live in the same household.
Premier ($40 a month) includes everything in the Family plan plus Apple Fitness+ ($10), Apple News+ ($13) and 2TB of shared iCloud storage ($10). Bought separately, these would total $75, so the saving is $35 a month.
Extra storage and double billing
Extra space can be added with an iCloud+ subscription; alongside Premier, the maximum is 14TB if you choose the 12TB iCloud+ plan at $60 a month. If an existing iCloud+ plan has less storage than the chosen Apple One tier, it is canceled, the data stays intact and a pro-rated refund is issued. If it has more, the plan can be kept alongside Apple One's storage. Billing stops for any individual services included in the chosen Apple One plan.
Apple One makes the most sense for people who will use everything it includes.
