Apple unveils foldable iPhone Duo, iPhone 18 Pro lineup and updated wearables at fall event
At its Wednesday fall event, the first under new CEO John Ternus, Apple introduced its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, along with the iPhone 18 Pro series, updated Apple Watches and AirPods 5. The company also unveiled a redesigned Health app.
Apple held its fall event, dubbed "Surprise and Sunshine," on Wednesday — its first major showcase since John Ternus took over as CEO. The centerpiece announcement was the company's long-anticipated first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo.
iPhone Duo
Apple's first foldable offers a 7.6-inch Retina display when unfolded and a 5.4-inch outer display. The company said the design was inspired by the versatility of the iPad. The inner display uses an under-display camera to achieve a nearly all-screen look. Battery life reaches up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display and up to 44 hours on the outer one. The device includes a 48-megapixel main camera and a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera with 2x optical zoom. Its hinge is built from Grade 5 aluminum and contains more than 100 specially engineered components. The iPhone Duo starts at $1,999 for 256GB and comes in two colors. Pre-orders open October 16, with availability starting October 23.
iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max
The new Pro lineup keeps last year's design but brings a major camera upgrade: a 48-megapixel sensor with a variable aperture controlled by six thin blades, aimed at improving low-light shots and shooting speed. New software adds professional controls like white balance, shutter speed and a histogram, plus new Photographic Styles with texture and grain options. The camera can also record 4K video in Dolby HDR Vision. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 and the Pro Max at $1,299 — $100 more than last year's models. Pre-orders open Saturday, with sales starting September 18.
Apple Watch and AirPods 5
The Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 see no major hardware redesign but gain new software features, including "Live Rewind," which shows the last 15 seconds of a conversation as text, and "Siri Recap," which helps users remember key moments from meetings or conversations. A new "Sound Recognition" feature detects sounds like sirens, alarms and a crying baby to alert users who are hard of hearing. The Series 12 starts at $399 and the Ultra 4 at $499, both available in stores from September 18.
The AirPods 5 bring improved sound quality, active noise cancellation that's 50% stronger than before, and volume controls on the stem — previously exclusive to the pricier AirPods Pro. Battery life reaches up to five hours with noise cancellation on, and up to 22 hours with the charging case. Prices start at $129.
Apple also announced a redesigned Health app powered by Apple Intelligence, featuring a new Insights tab, personalized guidance, a "Readiness" score and a "Health Age" calculation. The update rolls out later this year, initially in U.S. English.
