Apple sets September date for iPhone event, foldable phone expected

Apple has sent out invitations for its next major product event, scheduled for September 9th at 1PM ET. The invites, carrying the tagline "Surprise and shine," went out on Wednesday. The event will be held at the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park, with a livestream also available on Apple's website.

A foldable iPhone may debut

This year's September event could be significant, as Apple is rumored to finally reveal its long-awaited foldable iPhone. A photo of what appears to be a dummy unit suggests the device may have a wide form factor, comparable to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8.

Pro line refresh expected

Apple is also expected to update its Pro and Pro Max phones, though reports suggest these will be incremental upgrades rather than the major redesign introduced last year. Following past naming patterns, the new models would likely be called the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

Reports indicate Apple will skip announcing the base iPhone 18 at this event, instead planning to introduce it next year. In 2027, the company is also rumored to release an iPhone 18e and a second-generation iPhone Air.

First event under new leadership

The event will mark the first Apple product launch presented under incoming CEO John Ternus, who takes over from Tim Cook on September 1st. Ternus previously served as the company's head of hardware.
