The New Riga Theatre (JRT) faced an emergency situation on Friday evening after its ground-floor premises flooded, triggering the building's fire alarm system. The incident was confirmed by Inga Liepiņa, the theatre's advertising and public relations specialist.

Following the alarm, theatre staff decided, for safety reasons, to evacuate all spectators present in the building at the time. Because of the flooding and the resulting alarm, the theatre cancelled all three performances that had been scheduled for that Friday evening.

Details still unclear

The available information does not specify the cause of the flooding, how extensive the water damage was, or whether anyone was injured during the incident. It also remains unclear how long it will take the theatre to clean up and resume its normal performance schedule.

The JRT representative did not clarify whether the cancelled shows will be rescheduled for another date or whether ticket holders will be offered some form of compensation. Audience members may need to await further updates from the theatre regarding upcoming performances in the coming days.
