Survey: 47% of EU citizens back fast-track Ukrainian membership
A Bertelsmann Foundation survey finds that 47% of European Union citizens support Ukraine joining the EU in the coming years. Another 53% oppose accession on that timeline.

A survey by the Bertelsmann Foundation indicates that nearly half of European Union (EU) citizens support a quick accession of Ukraine to the bloc. Some 47% of respondents expressed support for Ukraine joining the EU in the coming years.
The opposing view is held by 53% of those polled, who are against Ukraine entering the EU within such a timeframe. The results concern how soon Ukraine could become a member state, not whether it should ever join.
The figures show that opinion among EU citizens on a fast accession of Ukraine is split almost evenly, with a slight majority rejecting that scenario.
