Poll data suggests 'Apvienotais saraksts' could win over 40 seats in Saeima

As final results of the 15th Saeima elections are awaited, political commentator Jurģis Liepnieks says the 'Apvienotais saraksts' party alliance could achieve a historic seat count in parliament based on current polling data.

As Latvia awaits the final results of the 15th Saeima parliamentary elections, significant attention has turned to voter survey data showing the 'Apvienotais saraksts' (United List) party alliance holding a commanding lead with 35.6% support. The alliance's leader and Prime Minister, Andris Kulbergs, awaited the election results from a venue called 'White House.'

Political commentator Jurģis Liepnieks commented on the potential seat distribution via the social media platform X, noting that if the official results closely match the survey data, 'Apvienotais saraksts' could secure more than 40 seats out of the Saeima's 100 total seats.

A potential historic record

Liepnieks emphasized that such an outcome would be unprecedented in Latvian political history. The largest number of seats previously won by a single political organization in the Saeima was recorded in 1993, when the party 'Latvijas ceļš' (Latvia's Way) secured 36 seats. If 'Apvienotais saraksts' were indeed to surpass the 40-seat threshold, it would break a record that has stood for nearly three decades.

However, it must be stressed that these figures are currently only projections based on voter survey data, not actual vote counts. The precise distribution of seats among parties will only be determined once official election results are confirmed and mandates are allocated according to electoral law.

Until official results are published, public and media attention remains focused on interim data suggesting potentially significant shifts in Latvia's political landscape following this election.
