"Apvienotais saraksts" to receive maximum state party funding, other parties under one million

After winning Latvia's 15th Saeima election, the "Apvienotais saraksts" party will receive the legally capped maximum state budget funding over the next four years, while every other party entering parliament will get less than one million euros annually.

Under Latvia's Law on Financing of Political Organizations (Parties), any party that won more than 2% of the vote in the last Saeima election receives annual state funding equal to 0.9% of the minimum monthly wage for every vote it received. Parties that crossed the 5% threshold also receive a one-time annual bonus equal to 200 minimum monthly wages. The law also caps total annual funding for any single party at 1,600 minimum monthly wages.

The government's 2024 medium-term plan envisioned the minimum wage rising to €820 by 2027, though that figure could still change during next year's budget negotiations. Based on that projection, parties above the 2% threshold would receive €7.38 per vote.

Winner hits the cap

Election winner "Apvienotais saraksts" (AS) secured at least 282,000 votes. Combined with the 5% bonus, the calculated amount would exceed two million euros, but the law's roughly €1.3 million annual ceiling means that capped figure is what AS will actually receive, since the raw calculation surpasses it.

Other parties

Other parties that cleared 5% will receive smaller sums: "Latvija pirmajā vietā" could get around €940,000, "Suverēnā vara/Apvienība jaunlatvieši" around €860,000, the National Alliance around €690,000, "Progresīvie" around €630,000, and "Jaunā vienotība" around €540,000 a year.

Three parties that cleared only the 2% threshold without reaching 5% will receive smaller amounts with no bonus: the Union of Greens and Farmers around €261,000, "Mēs mainām noteikumus" around €203,000, and "Latvijas attīstībai" around €129,000. The party "Stabilitātei" is sitting right at the 2% line, and it remains unclear whether it will receive any state funding at all.

State funding is granted for four years and paid out twice annually - by January 15 and July 15 - starting the year after the Saeima election.
