Sparkling eyes for hockey: Aizkraukle's Anete Kalēja and her path to the Baltu Lūši goal
Nine-year-old Anete Kalēja from Aizkraukle talks about her passion for hockey, which began with family hockey-watching and her first steps at the “Akropole” rink. She now plays for the “Baltu Lūši” club.

Nine-year-old Anete Kalēja from Aizkraukle has recently become passionate about one thing above all else — hockey. She speaks about it with visibly sparkling eyes, as she and her mother Zane told the outlet “Staburags”.
From spectator to player
Anete recalls that as a child she used to watch hockey games together with her family, and it was then that the idea of becoming a hockey player took root. She was especially drawn in by videos of players skating, and developed a strong desire to try the experience herself.
First steps at “Akropole”
To help her pursue that interest, her family took her to the “Akropole” skating rink, where Anete began her first training sessions and got her first close look at the sport. Since then, she has grown into a young hockey player representing the “Baltu Lūši” club.
Today — wearing Baltu Lūši colors
Anete arrived for the interview with “Staburags” wearing the club’s black jersey, showing her connection to the team. Although the morning meeting came early and she admitted she would have liked another hour of sleep, she showed up cheerful and eager to talk about the sport she loves.
Anete’s story shows how a simple family interest and a child’s curiosity can grow into a genuine passion for sport, and how a local venue such as the “Akropole” rink can become the first step on the path toward an athletic career.
