Argentina Ready to Offer Scaloni New Deal Through 2030

Argentina's football federation is prepared to offer head coach Lionel Scaloni a new contract that would keep him in charge of the national team through another full World Cup cycle, potentially until 2030. The news was reported by football journalist Fabrizio Romano.

According to the report, the new agreement would initially run through the 2028 Copa America tournament, with an option to extend it through the 2030 World Cup.

Current situation

Scaloni's existing contract runs until December of this year. After Argentina's loss to Spain in the 2026 World Cup final, the coach suggested he might step down once his current deal expires. However, Argentine Football Association president Claudio Tapia has publicly expressed a desire to continue working with Scaloni.

Scaloni's achievements

Scaloni has led Argentina's national team since 2018. Under his guidance, the team has won two Copa America titles, in 2021 and 2024, as well as the 2022 World Cup. This past summer, Argentina reached the World Cup final again but lost to Spain.

Should Scaloni remain in charge, he will have to do so without the team's longtime leader Lionel Messi, who has already announced the end of his international career. Messi's farewell match is scheduled for October.
