Arias sends Colombia into World Cup last-16 with 1-0 win over Ghana
Colombia beat Ghana 1-0 thanks to a goal from Jhon Arias, securing a spot in the World Cup round of 16 where they will face Switzerland.

The World Cup round of 32 concluded with Colombia defeating Ghana 1-0 in sweltering conditions in Kansas City on Friday, advancing to the last 16.
Jhon Arias scored the only goal in the 14th minute, finishing a cross from substitute Luis Suarez, who had replaced the injured Jhon Cordoba in the eighth minute. Colombia's disciplined defense held firm, extending their unbeaten run.
Colombia had largely flown under the radar despite topping Group K undefeated against Portugal, Uzbekistan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The win established them as dangerous outsiders.
The stadium was filled with tens of thousands of Colombia supporters, creating a de facto home atmosphere despite the 30-degree Celsius heat. Fans waved flags, scarves, and traditional hats, chanting "Vamos Colombia! Esta noche tenemos que ganar!"
Luis Diaz had several chances, including a goal disallowed for offside early in the second half. Ghana goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi made numerous excellent saves to keep his team in the match.
Antoine Semenyo was Ghana's biggest attacking threat, but Colombia's defense denied him clear opportunities. Ghana, ranked 60 places below Colombia, struggled to break through.
Colombia became the fourth South American team to reach the last 16, joining Paraguay, Brazil, and Argentina. They will play Switzerland on Tuesday in Vancouver.
