Silva takes Arctic Race stage win as Liepiņš sits mid-field overall
Uruguayan rider Guillermo Silva won the third stage of the Arctic Race and took the overall lead, while Latvia's Krists Liepiņš is placed 85th in the general classification.
The third stage of the Arctic Race cycling tour took place on Saturday, covering 146.5 kilometers that included two second-category climbs and a hors categorie climb positioned near the finish.
The stage was decided in a small-group sprint, with Uruguayan rider Guillermo Silva of XDS Astana crossing the line first in a time of three hours, 29 minutes and 11 seconds. Belgian rider Lenert van Eetvelt of Lotto Intermarche finished second, while Italian Alessandro Pinarello of NSN completed the podium.
Latvia's Krists Liepiņš, riding for Pinarello Q36.5, finished the stage seven minutes and 59 seconds behind the winner.
Overall standings
After three stages, Silva has moved into the overall lead, holding a slim ten-second advantage over van Eetvelt in second place. Liepiņš trails the leader by eight minutes and 15 seconds, placing him 85th among the 107 riders in the race.
The four-stage tour concludes on Sunday. Latvian cyclists have previously fared well at the event — in 2019, Krists Neilands finished third overall.
