The Latvian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday summoned the Russian charge d'affaires to issue a strong protest over false allegations made by Russian officials. Moscow had claimed that Latvia had opened its airspace for attacks on Russian targets. The ministry stated that these allegations are completely unfounded and contradict Latvia's consistent position. On April 10, the Baltic foreign ministers jointly rejected such accusations.

The ministry emphasized that Latvia rejects any Russian attempts to escalate the situation with false information and demanded the immediate retraction of these mendacious claims. It also dismissed other recent false statements by Russian officials about Latvia, including allegations of human rights violations. The ministry affirmed that Latvia ensures the rule of law for all its citizens.

During the meeting, the diplomat also received a categorical protest over Russia's massive missile and drone attack on Kyiv on the night of July 5-6. The attack killed at least 26 civilians and injured more than 60, including children. Latvia strongly condemns this barbaric attack.
