Doctor: Latvia has few TB cases, but ranks third in Europe
Tuberculosis remains a relevant infectious disease in Latvia, which ranks third in Europe by number of cases. Key prevention measures include child vaccination and ventilation of rooms.

Although the absolute number of tuberculosis cases in Latvia is not high, the country ranks third in Europe in terms of incidence, according to specialists from the Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases Center of Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital (RAKUS) on the Latvian Radio program “How to Live Better.”
The doctors emphasize that primary prevention includes vaccinating children against TB and regularly ventilating indoor spaces. Vaccination builds immunity from an early age, while good ventilation reduces the risk of infection in enclosed environments. Despite a decline in cases in recent years, experts warn against complacency, stressing the importance of continued vigilance and preventive measures. Tuberculosis is curable, but delayed detection can lead to serious health complications.
