Psychotherapist: Infertility is pain that affects both partners
Physician and psychotherapist Paula Kovaļevska, together with psychotherapist Ernests Pūliņš-Cinis, said infertility is not just one person's pain but affects at least two people. They discussed the emotional toll of infertility on Latvian Radio.

On the Latvian Radio programme "Vai tas ir normāli?", physician and psychotherapist Paula Kovaļevska and psychotherapist Ernests Pūliņš-Cinis spoke about the psychological side of infertility, stressing that this experience is not just the pain of one person but affects at least two.
An invisible loss
The specialists noted that loss connected with infertility is not always tangible or visible to others. Often it involves lost hopes and dreams of having a family — which nonetheless brings genuine grief.
Emotional impact
According to the experts, this kind of loss can cause people to grieve, suffer, feel anger, and experience a strong sense of helplessness. Kovaļevska and Pūliņš-Cinis emphasized that understanding infertility as a couple's issue, rather than solely an individual's problem, is important for properly recognizing this experience and its emotional weight.
