Arteta unconcerned over Arsenal contract negotiations
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says fans need not worry about his future at the club, insisting he wants to extend his deal and that the remaining time on his current contract is not a concern. The club continues strengthening its squad ahead of facing Manchester City.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has downplayed concerns over his contract situation, telling supporters they have nothing to worry about regarding his future at the club. His current deal, signed in 2024, has one year remaining, but Arteta made clear he wants to stay and is happy in his role.
Arteta has led Arsenal since 2019 and guided the club to its first Premier League title in 22 years last season. The Gunners face Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday. Speaking to reporters, Arteta said both he and the club feel comfortable that a renewal will be sorted out when the time is right, describing the process as organic rather than urgent.
Squad reinforcements
During the transfer window, Arsenal missed out on signing Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr but have brought in midfielder Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle, Greek international winger Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge, and converted Piero Hincapie's loan from Bayer Leverkusen into a permanent deal, with the combined spending on those moves reaching £143.5m. Goalkeeper Illan Meslier has also joined on a free transfer from Leeds United, while Leandro Trossard, Jakub Kiwior and Christian Norgaard have departed the club.
Following injuries to William Saliba and Jurrien Timber, Arsenal remain in the market for further defensive cover, with Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa and Bayer Leverkusen's Jarell Quansah among the targets under consideration. The transfer window remains open until 1 September.
Arsenal also reached last season's Champions League final, losing to Paris St-Germain. Arteta reiterated his ambition to push the club forward, saying the aim is to keep improving and evolving the squad to reach the next level.
