A French appeals court announced on Friday that Achraf Hakimi, the Moroccan and Paris Saint-Germain defender, must stand trial for rape. The accusation dates back to February 2023, when a 24-year-old woman filed a police complaint in the Val-de-Marne department southeast of Paris, alleging that Hakimi raped her. Hakimi denies the allegations.
Hakimi is currently participating in the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, representing Morocco. In their opening Group C match, Morocco drew 1-1 with Brazil, with Hakimi playing the full 90 minutes. Morocco's next match is against Scotland early Saturday (1 a.m. Latvian time), followed by a final group game against Haiti.
