Aston Villa have struck a deal with West Ham to bring in right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The 28-year-old DR Congo international will initially join on loan, with the move set to become permanent through an obligation to buy once the season ends.

Wan-Bissaka has already been cleared to travel to the Midlands for a medical, though the precise financial terms of the transfer have not been disclosed. West Ham had previously been asking interested clubs for a fee in the region of £25m. The defender sat out the Championship club's opening two matches of the season while the negotiations played out.

West Ham have had a busy summer of outgoing business, selling Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham for £85m and Crysencio Summerville to an unnamed buyer for £60m. Captain Jarrod Bowen, meanwhile, has committed his future to the club by signing a new contract.

Aston Villa have likewise been active in the market, notably selling Morgan Rogers to Chelsea for £117m. That deal has helped give Villa the lowest net spend of any Premier League club this summer, at roughly £110m once sales are factored in.

Despite the modest net outlay, Villa have brought in midfielders Johan Manzambi and Joao Gomes, along with Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho on a loan deal that includes an obligation to buy. The club has also secured highly rated young centre-back Modou Keba Cisse.

Villa open their Premier League season away at Brighton on Sunday, and will also feature in the Champions League this term after finishing fourth in the league and winning the Europa League last season under manager Unai Emery.
