ASUS marks ROG's 20th anniversary with new ROG XBOX Ally X20 handheld
ASUS has unveiled the ROG XBOX Ally X20, an updated handheld gaming PC with a larger OLED screen, celebrating 20 years of its ROG product line. Pre-orders open today, with sales starting October 15.
ASUS has introduced an updated version of its popular handheld gaming device, the ROG XBOX Ally X20, released to mark the 20th anniversary of the company's Republic of Gamers (ROG) product line. Its predecessor, the ROG Xbox Ally X, was widely regarded as one of the best PC gaming handhelds on the market.
New look and display
While the basic design remains unchanged, the new model features a translucent black chassis with gold accents both inside and outside the device. The most notable upgrade is the display — the previous 7-inch IPS panel has been replaced with a 7.4-inch Nebula HDR OLED screen, offering improved contrast and color saturation. Brightness has increased to 600 nits, with peaks reaching 1,400 nits, compared to 500 nits on the previous model.
Specs largely unchanged
The rest of the hardware remains similar to the earlier model, including an AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip, 24GB of shared RAM, a 1TB SSD and an 80 watt-hour battery. The device retains a familiar button layout with customizable rear paddles, though the analog sticks have been upgraded with magnetic technology.
Pricing and availability
The ROG XBOX Ally X20 is priced at $1,300, up from $1,000 for the original model, though it remains cheaper than the rival MSI Claw 8 EX AI+, which costs $1,800. A bundle is also available for $2,499, including the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 augmented reality glasses, a Dbrand Killswitch shell, a 68-watt power adapter and a Pelican Protector case. The XREAL R1 glasses are also compatible with other devices, including smartphones, laptops and the Nintendo Switch 2.
Pre-orders are now available directly through ASUS and via Best Buy, with official sales set to begin on October 15.
