Trump Admin Allows Anthropic's Mythos 5 for Over 100 US Companies and Agencies
Two weeks after a ban, the Trump administration softens its stance, permitting Anthropic to distribute its cybersecurity model Mythos 5 to over 100 US government agencies and companies, including their non-US employees.

Two weeks after the ban that forced Anthropic to pull its powerful cybersecurity models Mythos 5 and Fable 5 from the market, the Trump administration is easing its position. It now allows Anthropic to make Mythos 5 available to over 100 specific U.S. government agencies and companies, including allowing non-American employees at those organizations to access the model. This list also includes Anthropic’s own non-American employees, who were initially barred under the original restriction.
In a letter seen by Semafor, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick wrote to Anthropic’s chief compute officer Tom Brown on Friday, stating, "I have determined that appropriate safeguards are in place to permit certain trusted partners to access the Claude Mythos 5 Model." The administration did not address the release of Fable 5 in this directive.
Fable 5 was a widely released version of the model a couple of days before the ban, as it was said to have more protections. Both models were pulled after security researchers allegedly bypassed those guardrails with ease.
Anthropic acknowledged the progress publicly in a post on X on Friday: "Since June 12, we’ve been working closely with the US government to restore access to Claude Mythos 5 and Fable 5. Today, the government notified us that Mythos 5, our strongest cybersecurity model, can be redeployed to a set of US organizations that operate and defend critical infrastructure. We’re restoring access for these organizations quickly, and we’re continuing to work with the government to expand access to Mythos 5 and make Fable 5 available for general use again."
