US proposes new round of Ukraine-Russia talks within weeks
The US has offered to arrange a trilateral technical-level meeting between Ukraine and Russia by the end of October, Zelensky announced, with Kyiv already agreeing to take part.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that the United States is pushing for a fresh round of talks between Ukraine and Russia, aiming to hold them within the coming weeks — at the latest by the end of October.
Trilateral technical-level meeting
According to Zelensky, Washington is currently in contact with both Kyiv and Moscow, proposing a trilateral meeting involving US, Ukrainian and Russian representatives at a technical rather than top political level. He said he discussed the matter with the US negotiating team the previous day, and that American officials were actively reaching out to both warring sides on the day of his statement to agree on a specific format.
The goal is to achieve progress toward a possible peace settlement, though for now the discussion concerns only launching technical-level talks rather than reaching a final agreement.
Ukraine ready to participate
Ukraine has already agreed to the US proposal and expressed willingness to take part in the planned talks. Zelensky said the country's attitude toward the initiative is positive and that Kyiv is awaiting further details from the American side.
The United Arab Emirates is being considered as one possible venue, though Ukraine is reportedly flexible enough to consider another country if proposed by the US.
Previous efforts
This is not the first time Washington has sought to advance the settlement process. American officials have repeatedly tried to facilitate talks between Russia and Ukraine, but no decisive breakthrough has been achieved so far. It remains unclear how Russia will respond to the latest proposal.
