US President Donald Trump has confirmed the additional deployment of 5,000 American soldiers to Poland during a meeting with Polish President Karol Nawrocki in Washington. The information was disclosed by Nawrocki's advisor Marcin Przydacz.
Nawrocki visited the US to attend Trump's 80th birthday celebration. Talks focused on Poland's security and the future of US military presence. Przydacz stated that Trump reiterated Washington's commitment to Poland's security, including under NATO's Article 5.
Trump emphasized that planned reductions of US forces in Europe will not affect Poland and that his public pledge to send additional troops remains valid. In May, Trump announced the deployment of 5,000 troops to Poland, shortly after the Pentagon temporarily suspended the rotation of a brigade.
The decision is linked to Nawrocki's victory in Poland's presidential election, which Trump supported. Washington has been reducing its military presence elsewhere in Europe, causing concern among NATO allies on the eastern flank. Last month, the Pentagon announced the withdrawal of 5,000 troops from Germany.
Poland has proposed establishing a permanent US base with infrastructure for soldiers and their families. Przydacz noted that “doors remain open” for further cooperation, but political declarations must now be followed by concrete decisions regarding deployment locations and bases.
