US Confirms Two Soldiers Killed in Iranian Strikes in Jordan
The US Central Command reported that two American soldiers were killed and one is missing after Iranian strikes on a facility in Jordan on July 17. Four other soldiers were briefly hospitalized.
The United States has confirmed the deaths of two American soldiers and the disappearance of another following Iranian strikes on a facility in Jordan. According to a statement from US Central Command (CENTCOM), on July 17, two US service members were killed during combat operations while defending against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks. An additional soldier is currently listed as missing. The identities of the deceased will be released within 24 hours after their families have been notified.
Four other US soldiers were briefly hospitalized as a result of the attack. This marks the first officially declared deaths of American troops in combat since the start of the US war with Iran in March 2026.
US President Donald Trump commented on the incident, calling the loss of soldiers “very regrettable” and saying he “can’t stand when that happens.”
According to Pentagon data from early April, 13 US service members had been killed and over 360 wounded in the first five weeks of the war against Iran. About half of those deaths occurred in a refueling aircraft crash. In mid-June, eight soldiers were killed in a B-52 bomber crash in the United States.
