US Resumes Airstrikes on Iranian Territory After Week-Long Pause
The United States has resumed airstrikes on targets within Iran, following a nearly week-long hiatus. The strikes were described by the US military as a response to Iranian attempts to attack US forces in the Middle East.
The United States military has resumed airstrikes on Iranian territory, marking the first such attacks after a pause of nearly a week. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that the strikes were a strong response to Iranian attempts to attack US forces stationed in the Middle East, which occurred the previous day.
According to CENTCOM, the targets included military command centers, missile launchers, coastal defense installations, and naval forces. Iranian state television reported strikes near the border town of Piranshahr, while the Fars news agency reported that a missile struck an uninhabited area.
Saudi Arabia and the US announced on Wednesday that their warplanes had struck Iran-backed militants in Iraq on Tuesday, who had carried out over 20 drone attacks in recent days. Saudi Arabia had earlier reported drone attacks on its oil industry over two days, blaming Iran-linked Iraqi armed groups.
Separately, Israel accused the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah of violating a ceasefire. Iran also launched missiles at Jordan, a US ally in the region.
