On Monday, as Ukraine celebrated its Independence Day, commemorative and solidarity gatherings also took place in Washington, D.C. Ukrainians living in the United States used the occasion to come together and reaffirm how crucial international support remains for their homeland.

Those who gathered directed their message straight at US President Donald Trump. Their appeal was blunt and unambiguous: "Ukraine no longer has time to wait!" The phrase was meant to underline the urgency of the moment and the need for faster action from Washington.

This year, Independence Day served not only as a national holiday but also as an opportunity for Ukrainians abroad to publicly remind the world that the fighting continues and that keeping allied attention and engagement is essential. The Washington gathering showed how the diaspora uses symbolic dates to make its voice heard at the highest levels of American politics.

The appeal to President Trump reflects the ongoing pressure the Ukrainian community in the US is trying to exert to keep the Ukraine issue from losing priority on the American foreign policy agenda. The directness of the message — insisting that time has run out — also mirrors a broader concern that prolonged waiting and delayed decisions could harm Ukraine's position.
