US Midterms: Democrats Set to Take Control of Both Chambers of Congress
According to US media projections based on preliminary vote counts, the Democratic Party is regaining the majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate in the US congressional midterm elections. The vote was seen as a referendum on President Donald Trump's policies.

The Democratic Party is set to take control of both chambers of the US Congress, the House of Representatives and the Senate, following this autumn's midterm elections, according to American media projections based on preliminary vote counts. The midterms were widely regarded as a referendum on the policies of the current US president, Donald Trump.
Senate
The Associated Press (AP) and CNN project that the Democrats have so far secured at least 51 of the 100 seats in the US Senate.
Democratic candidates won Senate races in Texas and South Carolina, states that have not elected Democratic senators for several decades. They also won in Kansas, where a Democratic candidate last prevailed in 1932, during the Great Depression.
House of Representatives
Media outlets also project that the Democrats will regain control of the House of Representatives. In this autumn's midterms, the entire House was up for re-election, along with one third of the Senate.
Trump's reaction
Commenting on the preliminary results on his social network Truth Social, Trump wrote that his name was not on the ballot in these elections. He added: "If I had been running, we would have won a convincing victory!"
The results remain preliminary and are based on media projections drawn from partial vote counts.
