According to information from American intelligence, Russia is preparing a large-scale campaign of strikes against Kyiv's energy infrastructure in the run-up to Ukraine's Independence Day on August 24. The strikes may involve Russia's strategic reserve of ballistic missiles.

At the same time, Ukraine is currently receiving significantly fewer anti-missile interceptors than at the start of the year — supplies have dropped by nearly a factor of three, which could complicate defense against the anticipated strikes.

Drone overflights of a German base

On the night of August 7, unidentified drones repeatedly flew over a Bundeswehr base in Mechernich, Germany. The base is used to service and repair American-made Patriot air defense systems, which are also employed in Ukraine's air defense.

Ukraine acquires weapons from Turkey

Ukraine has purchased 70 ATACMS missiles and 12 M270 launch systems from Turkey, strengthening its long-range strike capabilities.
