A United States Air Force Boeing C-17 Globemaster III military transport aircraft has landed at Vnukovo Airport in Moscow, according to flight-tracking data from Flightradar24. The development was first reported by the outlet Visegrád 24.

Before heading to the Russian capital, the aircraft had been in Riga, arriving there on August 23. Flight history data shows that one of its earlier departure points was the area of Camp Springs, Maryland, home to Joint Base Andrews — a facility also used for flights carrying the US president.

No official information about the aircraft's route or the purpose of the trip has been released, and the reason for the American military plane's flight to Moscow remains unknown.

Context

The report comes as Russian authorities have reportedly been anticipating a possible visit from US presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner. Both have previously served as US intermediaries between Moscow and Kyiv during earlier rounds of peace talks, though according to the outlet Meduza, that process is currently frozen.
