US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that the United States has signed an agreement with the Kingdom of Denmark and Greenland granting the US permanent control over security and other matters on the island.
According to Trump, the deal fully resolves all US concerns regarding Greenland. The agreement stipulates that no adversary of the United States will be able to establish a base or military presence in Greenland, or make so-called "sensitive investments" there, without direct written permission from the US.
Expanding military presence
Trump said the US will immediately begin deploying a significant military presence in relevant areas of Greenland. According to him, the agreement cost the US nothing and will remain in effect forever, as it has no expiration date.
Trump emphasized that the US will now have full freedom to act in Greenland as necessary to ensure the security of both Greenland and the United States.
