The US government plans to livestream the execution of Nidal Hasan, a former US Army major convicted of killing 13 people at the Fort Hood military base in Texas. Anonymous Defense Department officials told the BBC and the Associated Press about the plan.

The execution was announced this week. Hasan is scheduled to be put to death by firing squad on December 3 at 2 p.m. Eastern Time (ET).

The defense secretary's remarks

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in an interview with Real America's Voice that the government will make sure people can watch the execution and that it is public. In his words, people need to understand that there are serious consequences for such acts.

Platforms have not responded

The technology outlet The Verge asked YouTube, Twitch, TikTok, Meta, Rumble and Kick whether they intend to allow the livestream on their platforms. None of them had replied by the time of publication.

The source does not say how or on which platform the broadcast would be carried.
