Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten has announced that his office is reopening an investigation into gang rape allegations tied to a Cornell University fraternity.
The case stems from a lawsuit filed by a woman who says she was sexually assaulted in 2024 by seven students after being given alcohol and drugs.
Evidence heading to a grand jury
Van Houten said Monday that evidence in the case will now be presented to a grand jury. The move comes as his office has faced public questions over why no criminal charges were brought against the students involved.
