Midterm elections are taking place in the United States on 3 November. They are held midway through a presidential term, and voters use them to decide the makeup of the US Congress. Polling stations across the country will close in waves, because voting ends at different times in different states.
First polls to close
Indiana and Kentucky will be the first states where voting ends. Polls there are due to close at 23:00 GMT. Other states will follow later.
Information about turnout and early results is still limited. Reports on the outcome will be updated as official data becomes available.
