US strikes Iran for third night; Trump says deal still possible
The United States launched a fresh series of strikes against Iran for a third consecutive night, even as President Donald Trump said a diplomatic deal with Tehran remains possible.

The US military carried out new attacks early Tuesday, marking a further escalation in the renewed hostilities. President Trump also indicated that a deal with Iran could still be reached.
Trump sent Congress formal notification that hostilities against Iran resumed on July 7. The administration sees this letter as opening a new 60-day window for military operations without congressional approval.
On Monday, President Trump vowed to strike Iran "hard" again, and the military conducted a third consecutive night of attacks while reimposing a blockade on Iranian ports.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi mocked Trump's threat to impose hefty fees on commercial shipping passing through the Strait of Hormuz, saying Tehran would charge a lower rate.
