US and Iran Sign Memorandum of Understanding to End War – Takes Immediate Effect
The United States and Iran have signed a memorandum of understanding ending hostilities, with the document already in effect. The parties commit to further negotiations within 60 days to reach a final agreement.

According to Axios correspondent Barak Ravid, citing two US officials, the United States and Iran remotely signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Wednesday to end the war. The document took effect immediately. President Donald Trump personally signed a copy during a dinner with the French president at the Palace of Versailles, and a photo of the signed document was sent to Iran and mediating countries.
Hours earlier, the US officially released the text of the MoU, which matches a previously leaked draft. The memorandum formalizes the ceasefire and outlines a timeline for further talks. Both parties are obligated to conduct additional negotiations within 60 days to reach a final settlement.
The MoU requires Iran to fully unblock the Strait of Hormuz for commercial vessels, while the US must lift its naval blockade on Iranian ports. The signing ceremony was originally expected to take place in Switzerland on Friday, June 19, with both parties present.
