According to information provided to journalists by US officials, the United States and Iran remotely signed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday aimed at ending the war. The agreement has already entered into force, reports Axios correspondent Barak Ravid.
A US official confirmed that President Donald Trump signed the document during a dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles following the G7 summit. Iran officially confirmed on Thursday morning that it had also signed the agreement with the US.
Esmaeil Bakaei, spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry, stated that "the text of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding was finally approved with the signatures of the presidents" and that now is the time to verify the implementation of the agreement. His remarks were cited by the state news agency IRNA.
Trump, US Vice President James David Vance, and Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf had already electronically signed the agreement to end the war in the Middle East on Monday. The official signing ceremony is scheduled for Friday at the Swiss mountain resort of Bürgenstock.
