Shane Somers, a driver in the United States, has logged 100,000 miles — about 161,000 kilometers — on his Toyota Prius in only eight months, averaging roughly 20,000 kilometers a month. Several automotive publications have reported on the case, noting that most drivers would need a full year to cover the same distance.
Somers uses the car for work, delivering medical supplies to hospitals and care facilities. Despite the heavy use, the hybrid has held up well, with most of its service visits limited to routine maintenance.
Maintenance required
Over the eight-month period, the car received ten oil changes, several air and cabin filter replacements, and servicing of its coolant and inverter systems. The only notable repair was replacing the front wiper blades. Five tires were punctured along the way, but the entire 160,000-kilometer stretch was covered on just two sets of tires.

The US-market Toyota Prius is powered by a hybrid system combining a two-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with an electric motor, producing a combined 197 horsepower and 206 Nm of torque.
