As the US congressional midterm elections draw near, the contest between the Republican and Democratic parties is growing more tense. Midterms are held in the middle of a president's term, and voters use them to decide the makeup of Congress. Very little time remains before the vote.

In several states that were previously regarded as impregnable Republican strongholds, cracks in voter trust have now appeared. According to the report, the cause is the policy pursued by President Donald Trump, which has shaken support for his party among some voters.

A campaign with an uncertain payoff

Trump is currently campaigning intensively and travelling to various events. However, there is no firm certainty that these trips will help raise the Republican Party's popularity. In other words, the president's active involvement may not bring the hoped-for benefit and cannot guarantee that lost trust will be regained.

The situation matters because the midterm result affects the balance of power in Congress and, with it, the president's ability to advance his agenda. With tension between the two major parties rising, every state where sentiment shifts may become important.
