US launches fresh strikes on Iran as fighting over Strait of Hormuz escalates
The US military announced a new wave of attacks against Iran on Sunday after renewed clashes in the Strait of Hormuz saw several Gulf allies targeted, undermining an interim agreement between Washington and Tehran.

The United States military on Sunday said it had carried out a fresh round of strikes against Iran, following renewed hostilities in the strategic Strait of Hormuz. According to Washington, the strikes were in response to Iranian attacks on shipping in the waterway. The escalation comes amid an interim agreement between the US and Iran aimed at ending their war, which has caused global economic disruption since late February.
Iranian state media reported that more than 10 projectiles struck Iran's Gulf island of Qeshm in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday. President Donald Trump stated that the US hit Iran hard in retaliation for its latest attacks on shipping. Meanwhile, the US military insisted that ships continue to transit the Strait of Hormuz despite Iran's claim to have closed it.
The latest attacks mark the third round of strikes this week, according to US Central Command. The situation remains tense, with no official comment from Iran on casualties or damage. The fragile ceasefire between the two nations appears increasingly unstable as both sides trade accusations.
