US strikes across Iran as Tehran retaliates against American bases
The US launched missile strikes across Iran for the 13th consecutive night, while Iranian forces responded with drone attacks targeting US military installations in Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, and Iraq.
The United States carried out missile strikes across Iran on Friday, following President Donald Trump's vow of "major military punishment" for Tehran and its Houthi allies in Yemen for extending the Middle East war to a second major shipping chokepoint, the entrance to the Red Sea.
US Central Command said it had targeted Iranian military command centers, communication networks, drone storage facilities, coastal surveillance sites, and maritime capabilities. Iranian state broadcaster IRIB reported explosions in Khondab, Khorramabad, Konarak, and Jask.
In retaliation, Iranian armed forces launched drone attacks against US bases in neighboring countries, specifically in Bahrain and Jordan, with further attacks reported in Kuwait and Iraq. The Iranian army warned civilians in the region to stay at least 500 meters away from US personnel.
Jordan's military said it intercepted seven missiles and six drones launched by Iran, with no casualties or damage reported.
Meanwhile, Iran pushed back against a New York Times report claiming Tehran had rejected a US ceasefire proposal conveyed by the Iraqi prime minister. Tehran called the report "completely diversionary and misleading." An unnamed Iranian official told state media IRNA that Iran values diplomacy but blamed the escalation on the US breaking its promises. The Iraqi government also denied the report, calling it "completely baseless."
