Oman's Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi announced the postponement, saying it was done to create conditions for "constructive dialogue." No new date for the meeting has been announced.
Shifting focus to the nuclear program
Meanwhile, CNN reports that the United States wants to change its approach in talks with Iran. According to information obtained by CNN, the US side plans to place greater emphasis on Iran's nuclear program rather than its previous focus on the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz is a strategically vital shipping route in the Persian Gulf through which a large share of the world's oil supplies pass, making tensions there a central issue in international diplomacy until now. However, if reports of a shift in the US stance are confirmed, it would suggest Washington now considers curbing Iran's nuclear program the higher priority.
The postponement of the meeting and the delay in the negotiation process indicate that the parties have not yet agreed on the format or content for continuing dialogue on regional security issues.
